Will you view this year's World Series Champ as legit?

After 60 games last year, weren't the Nationals like 15 games under .500 or something like that and then won the thing?

I just won't view the winner this year as legit. Too many variables. The records certainly shouldn't be recognized.

Curious as to your thoughts?

No
Baseball is meant for a long season
play that short of a schedule and it isn't the same
But who cares.
It is something different and in a way more exciting
I might watch a lot of it or none of it
Not sure

People don't view any championships as legit these days. I think every time NE won they had something to say.

So sure, it doesn't counts. Nothing counts.

(no opinion really, don't follow baseball)...I do think the NBA title is impressive though, you try living like a CEO and then having to go live in a hotel in Orlando for 2 months.

It’s the playoff format that’s a joke .

Best of 3 is ridiculous .

Rob Manfred is terrible

Disagree
If you are throwing the season away and just playing it to have a season might as well have a short playoff where it is more likely any team can win
Can't exactly be okay with a short season and expect a normal playoff

In fairness. They are staying at a $1000 a night resort at the grand floridian

It's not the same, but I still want my team to win it. It's more meaningful than a normal division title but less meaningful than a normal world series; somewhere in between. Still something to watch, root for, and bet on, so I am pleased it's happening.

I'd also say the degree of difficulty is harder for favorites because the teams with homecourt (Lakers) had 65 games of regular season dominance just lit on fire in the bubble. Makes it tougher for the favorite to win in theory.

To be honest the only major sport that correctly crowns the best team almost every season is the NBA. It’s just the nature of the sport.

That’s why the playoffs are so predictable not counting this season although if the Lakers win they are probably the best team in the NBA.

But there are many many years in both NFL and MLB where we know the truly best team does not win it all.

Just last season in baseball in the stupid 1 game playoff Brewers vs Nationals .

The Brewers were up 4-2 in the bottom of the 9th with the best reliever in baseball on the mound .

And some way some how the nationals came back and won that game in the bottom of the 9th .

They were probably less then 5% tops to win that game going to the 9th but they pulled it off then went on to win it all.

Does anyone honestly think the nationals were the best team in baseball last season?

They were 95% to lose the very first game in the playoffs then they got hot and won it all.

Only in the NBA can you consistently say the best team won .

What is the purpose of the NBA holding a 7 game series in the same venue - should have made it 3 games

You confuse most skilled with best

Baseball for example you might think that if a team has 15 less wins and are a wild card but win it all they are not the best
Playoff baseball is different. They shorten their bullpen and even use a starter. They can shorten their team to the best guys. It isn't the same
They can be the best team but not the best regular season team
Playoffs are a test of will and skill
Not just skill and not just what you have shown in the regular season as teams grow throughout the year. Better record does not mean better team by the end of the year
But you are correct that looking at the teams in basketball it is easier to tell mostly because the best player on a team that plays mostly 8 guys can make the biggest difference compared to other sports

I understand what you are saying but that is not the point I’m making .

The Nationals had to overcome a 4-2 deficit in the 9th inning against the best closer in baseball to avoid losing in the first round of the playoffs .

If it wernt for overcoming that they would have been long forgotten and some other team would have been champs .

We all know the nationals were not the best team in baseball last season but they are the champs .

And yes I understand being the best team in the regular season does not translate always into being the best post season team in baseball .

But sometimes the best postseason teams in baseball don’t win either .

The vast nature and variance of baseball just cannot be over come in a 7 game series .

Baseball is the only sport where the worst team in baseball can beat the best team in baseball in any given 7 game series .

If the Chiefs played the jets 7 times the chiefs are going to beat the Jets 4 out of 7 100% of the time.

If best NBA team plays worst NBA 7 times the best team is going to win 4 out of 7 100% of the time .

If the Dodgers of this season played the Pittsburgh Pirates 4 out of 7 the Pirates would not lose that series anywhere close to 100% of the time

And 20 years from now people won’t remember it was a short season
